What is Urban Micro Garden? And why start a blog about it?
Hi, I’m Valentina. I’m 24 years old, and gardening is more than just a hobby for me, it’s something I truly love. And now, I want to share that passion with you.
A few weeks ago, I moved into a new apartment. As spring approaches, I found myself standing on my balcony, imagining what it could become. A quiet green corner, a place to breathe, to grow something.
But then a thought crossed my mind: not everyone has a balcony or a garden. Yet every small space holds the potential to welcome a touch of greenery.
That’s where this journey begins.
What is the Urban Micro Garden Movement?
The Urban Micro Garden Movement is about bringing nature back into our everyday lives, no matter how small our spaces are.
- Urban: Even in the heart of a city, you can create your own personal jungle.
- Micro: Limited space doesn’t mean giving up on greenery. Small can still be lush, vibrant, and alive.
- Garden: At its core, it’s all about reconnecting with nature, plant by plant.
- Movement: A shared vision that inspires people to reconnect with nature, wherever they are.
This movement is not just about aesthetics. It’s about creating moments of calm, reconnecting with the natural world, and transforming even the smallest corners into something meaningful.
Why create a blog about Urban Micro Garden?
I created this blog as a space to explore, learn, and grow, together. Here, we’ll dive into topics like:
- Vertical gardens for small spaces
- Terrariums and miniature ecosystems
- Fascinating facts and benefits of indoor plants
- Practical tips for beginners
- And much more…
Whether you have a balcony, a windowsill, or just a tiny corner of your home, there’s always room for a bit of green.
My personal project
This blog will also follow a very special journey, my own balcony transformation.
I’m currently choosing furniture, planning layouts, and deciding which vegetables and plants to grow. It’s a process full of excitement, small challenges, and creative decisions, and I can’t wait to share every step with you.
Think of it as a real-life experiment in building a micro garden from scratch.
The benefits of bringing green indoors
Creating a home garden isn’t just about decoration, it’s about well-being.
As highlighted in research:
“Domestic (home) gardens provide opportunities for psychological and physical health benefits […]” (Chalmin-Pui et al., 2021, p.1)
Plants can reduce stress, improve mood, and even enhance focus. In a fast-paced urban life, they offer something rare: a pause.
I’ll be back in a few days with the next article, where we’ll start getting our hands (a little) dirty.
See you soon,
Valentina 🌿
